Main Gallery Featured Artist

Craig Woida
"Hot Rods in Space!"

Craig Woida's art series,"Hot Rods in Space!" is inspired by the artist's life-long love of science fiction and custom car culture. Implementing his traditional illustration and digital art skills, his goal was to combine the stylings of some of the most iconic cars ever made with the optimistic visions of the future from his youth in the 1970s. These vibrant, star-bound, custom cruisers are all charged up and ready to take the viewer on an exciting journey of the imagination across the cosmos!

According to his parents, Craig has been drawing since before he could walk. This eventually led to a 20-year-long career in video game development as a concept artist and 3D computer graphics modeler. During that time he has helped create and ship over a dozen video game titles for various game platforms; with themes ranging from intergalactic space battles to post-apocalyptic vehicle combat, from big-city crime families to rats wanting to be chefs, and from swords and sorcery to virtual farming.

Craig's personal art process centers around the basis of traditional pencil on paper. From there, computer graphics software replaces traditional ink and paint with vector bezier curves and pixels with a limitless color palette. All while doing away with the dangers of spilled ink or having to wash out the brushes at the end of a session. The initial pencil sketch is scanned into the computer and then is virtually inked and painted with the use of a digital stylus. In the case of the "Hot Rods in Space!" artwork, Craig has a limited run of the art pieces printed on aluminum for a radiant, high-gloss finish and then numbered and hand-signed.
