Ceramic Artist

Darroll has a home studio in Port Orchard, WA. He received a Bachelor of Science in Art from Southern Oregon College in 1973 and a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Puget Sound in 1983.

His sculptural pieces display expansive experimentation with forms, techniques, firing temperatures, glazes and images. While working for his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Puget Sound he developed a remarkable rubbery clay. This clay has many of the characteristics of rubber until fired. During firing the rubber becomes porcelain like. Pre-fired clay can be knitted and tied in knots. Very fragile forms can also be formed while it is still rubbery. After firing the forms can be glazed like other ceramics. Fragile knitted and spiraled forms highlighted his graduate show. "Ceramics Monthly" published an article about his process called "Silicone Clay" in 1982.

He is also featured in the book "The Craft and Art of Clay" by Susan Peterson.

He has demonstrated with and lectured on his silicone clay process at the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art and Olympic College.
